    “The shot heard ’round the world” — Bobby Thomson’s famous pennant-winning homer in the 1951 playoff game against the Brooklyn Dodgers that propelled the New York Giants into the World Series.

    But how many fans remember who was on deck, ready to bat next? It was the great Willie Mays, then a rookie whose career would later become legendary.
