    BRANDON — Robert Ernest Duprey, 83, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.

    He was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Chester, the son of Ernest A. and Ruth (Benson) Duprey.

    He grew up in Chester, where he received his early education.

    In earlier years he worked as a woodsman, logging the mountains of Chester. He later farmed for a short while before moving to New Haven, Conn. In New Haven, he became a self-employed roofer and continued working as a roofer until his retirement.

    He enjoyed fishing, was an avid reader and fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He was also a big bingo player.

    Survivors include his wife, Rita Fuller Duprey of Brandon; two sons, Ernest Robert Duprey of Reading, and David Henry Duprey of Springfield; five daughters, Rosa-Lee Gould of Brandon, Stephanie Poleio of West Haven, Conn., Leona Pratt of Manchester, N.H., Bobbi-Jo Voight of Brandon, and Theresa Dwire of Lawsonville, N.C.; a brother, Richard Bruce of New Hampshire; a sister, Marjorie Childs of Buxton, Maine; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Foster Duprey and Gary Bruce, and a sister Elizabeth Osgood.

    Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conant Square Apartments Day Room, in Brandon.

    A private burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester.
