On Tuesday, Dec. 18, the greater Rutland community will have the opportunity to make history. The final Gift of Life Marathon will be making its last effort to break the current national one-day blood drive record of 1,968 pints.

Every drop counts this year, not only for the national record, but because blood supplies are critically low due to fewer donations resulting from Hurricane Sandy. While we all can readily understand the spirit of giving this holiday season, the gift of a small amount of your time this year can literally help save someone’s life.

The Red Cross is bringing personnel from throughout New England to dramatically increase staffing levels at a total of four convenient locations, resulting in particularly short wait times so that most people can donate their much-needed blood effortlessly. Dec. 18 is right around the corner, and your community needs you to call for your appointment at 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).

Donors from the entire Rutland region, and beyond, have time and again broken the New England record, and we will not have another opportunity to demonstrate our collective spirit and pride in such a unique and shared life-giving manner. Get your appointment now because there is no greater reward than giving the Gift of Life.
