    George A. Pratt

    BENNINGTON — George Arthur Pratt, 89, of the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington and formerly of Pownal, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.

    He was born in Pownal March 1, 1923, the son of George M. and Jennie (Crandall) Pratt, and received his education in local schools.

    He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, was a sergeant at the time of his discharge and was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross.

    Mr. Pratt ran Pownal Garage and was also a deputy game warden in Bennington County for several years.

    He enjoyed shooting and holds the world record at 1,000 yards, as well as the Marine Corps League Tournament National Record. He was also an avid guitarist and enjoyed playing for other CLR residents.

    Survivors include three children, Susan Dickinson of California, Sally Mattison of Aurora, Colo., and Barbara Hornsby of Brandon, Fla.; and five stepchildren, Betty Arnold, Kathy Western, Michael, Robert and David Tatro; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

    He was predeceased by his two wives, Evelyn (Blake) Pratt and Cecelia (Tatro) Pratt.

    The memorial service with military honors will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington with Ronald Murphy officiating.

    Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Oak Hill Cemetery.

    There are no calling hours.
