BURLINGTON — Four New York men have been charged in Vermont with making counterfeit $100 bills.
The U.S. attorney’s office said three of the men were arrested Thursday at a gas station in South Burlington after several area businesses reported receiving counterfeit bills. Police found several fake bills and a color printer in their car, and more fake money, drugs and the fourth defendant in a nearby motel room.
Authorities say the men, all from Brooklyn, had been bleaching $5 bills and then printing the image of a $100 bill on the bleached paper.
Twenty-four-year-old Daniel Hyacinthe was released after a court appearance Monday. Twenty-two-year-old Malik Delima, 26-year-old Lateek Cargo and 22-year-old Larry Galbreith were held without bail. Galbreith faces drug charges in addition to the counterfeiting charges the others face.
