Unfortunately, I was unable to travel to Burlington earlier this year when President Obama visited Vermont. However, I did avidly listen to the radio that day for updates. One interview in particular renewed my faith in the American public. An older gentleman who identified himself as a Republican was interviewed while he waited by the side of the road for the presidential motorcade to pass. The reporter asked in amazement why he was willing to wait for hours. The gentleman replied, “Because he is the president of the United States.”

Can you imagine how different President Obama’s first term in office would have been if the Republicans in Congress had shown the same kind of bipartisan respect as this gentleman?

President Obama has shown that he respects the poor, the elderly, women and the middle class. I respect him and plan to cast my vote for our commander in chief.
