Barracks may need new location
WESTMINSTER — A proposal to build a new Vermont State Police barracks may need a new location.
For several years, the state has been interested in building a new barracks in Westminster, which would consolidate the Rockingham and Brattleboro barracks.
But there have been delays over acquiring the land, which is owned by Westminster Realty Group.
The Brattleboro Reformer reported that the real estate company entered into an agreement with the town to put a new recycling station near the police building, meaning the barracks would have to share a road with the center.
Regional Buildings Department Director Bob Rea said if there’s an emergency and troopers have to get out, it could be disastrous to be caught behind a recycling truck.
An attorney representing the company declined to comment about negotiations.
