Vermont State Police are out in force this weekend with extra patrols focusing on impaired and aggressive drivers.

Col. Thomas L’Esperance says the Fourth of July holiday weekend has had a history of alcohol-related crashes.

He says Vermont troopers will focus on identifying impaired and aggressive drivers this weekend with extra patrols and sobriety checkpoints.

The Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program also is coordinating DUI task force patrols this weekend in Bennington, Franklin and Windsor counties.

I went through a sobriety checkpoint, yesterday, just outside of St. Johnsbury. The State Troopers were the nicest bunch of guys you would ever want to meet.

I wonder how many innocent people they will intimidate and harass? If they would only concentrate on the drunk and reckless drivers and other law breakers I would only have praise for them, but having been a subject of their gestapo like ways, I think they enjoy being able to intimidate lowly civilians.
