Vermont’s unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point in April, to 4.6 percent.
The latest report on joblessness from the state Department of Labor said construction and professional and business services showed strong growth in April while leisure and hospitality jobs associated with winter tourism ended early this year due to warm weather.
Vermont was well below the national unemployment rate for April, which was 8.1 percent.
Labor Commissioner Annie Noonan said she remains concerned about the long-term unemployed, and said her department is stepping up job training and placement counseling in an effort to address that issue.
